When Lacy Leach got word that her grandmother was in ICU, she had no idea it would be the first of a series of events that would make her Christmas season a tough one to get through.

"She died on the 5th and her funeral was the 9th," Leach said.

She and her family traveled to Brownwood to see her grandmother and attend the funeral. They returned to their home on Falls Street in Marlin the evening of the 12th to find their house in shambles.

"The door was open," Leach said. "They took everything."

Leach said she found clothing, dishes, food, TV, DVDs and even picture frames had been taken. She discovered that Christmas gifts she'd already purchased for her three children - six-year-old Heaven, four-year-old Patience and two year old Kelstin - were also gone.

"They even tried to steal the washer and dryer," Leach said, "but couldn't get it out of the door. They made a mess of everything. They tore up a dresser. Mirrors are broken. Everything is a mess."

Among the things missing was a breathing machine used to help her daughter's asthma.

Leach said she's spoken to all of her neighbors, but no one saw anything. She said she contacted the police who took, in hopes of finding fingerprints, a beer bottle left outside of the washroom window, and a piece of blue glass that Leach collects.

"We don't know what we'll do," Leach said. "They took everything."

Anyone wishing to help Leach and her family can make donations to Lacy Leach at Members Choice Federal Credit Union at 212 Virginia Ave in Marlin. Anyone making a donation will receive a written receipt.
