Never too old to write Santa

Dear Santa,

I know I haven’t written in a few years. I guess I just got too busy. That’s not a good excuse though. Some things have to be done, and writing to you... well. That’s very important.

How are you? It’s been a wild year weather-wise. Hopefully you’re all ready for the long trip ahead of you. Pack for anything, because you know once you hit Texas its a free-for-all as to what you’ll experience.

I’d say I’m writing early this year, but really Christmas is only three weeks away! Time flies when you’re having fun! I’ve been a...

Okay lets face it. You know how I’ve been and I’m sure you’ve made your choice on what list I’m on... and no offer of cookies, etc. is going to fix things if I’m on the “naughty” list. (But, hey, if it does? Let’s negotiate!)

Anyway, this is your typical Santa letter as you may have guessed already. My friends started making wish lists for this Christmas, and I felt I should jump in and do the same. So this is what I wish I could get for the Holiday:

To spend quality time with those I care about. Especially those that I see rarely. If it is at all possible to make it happen that I get even a little bit of time with them, you’ll have made my entire holiday season perfect. Tangible gifts are worth far less than being able to share time with those dearest to me.

Snow. I want snow. Not those little flurries we usually get that only tease us. I want great big, huge fluffy flakes. The kind that when you stand in them you swear it’s like rain pouring down, but the remarkable silence is deafening.

I want the kind that sticks to your eyelashes, in your hair, on your coat and that turn the entire world a clean, crisp white. The kind that piles up and, even if it doesn’t accumulate a large amount, it is enough to build tiny snowmen and throw snowballs.

I want it to come at night, so the white snow contrasts dramatically against the darkness. I want to sit with a cup of hot chocolate watching it fall, and then look out the window to see children experiencing this beauty first-hand.

Please send me wisdom to know what to give others. I love to give gifts — far more than receiving them. I need inspiration and wisdom as to what to give. I want to see the smile and delight on other’s faces as they find they’ve received something so specifically for them.

My taste in tangible gifts has admittedly gotten more expensive. So I’ll make this quick. I want a portable MP3 player, a Sony Vaio, a new printer and gift cards to my favorite stores. Well, okay, if someone would like to make my truck payment for just one month, I won’t turn that down either. Ha ha.

In all honesty, though, all I want for Christmas is a nice peaceful holiday in which all feels right with the world. I want that same thing for everyone. I want everyone to be surrounded by loved ones, and I want them to feel the joy that this season brings. I want everyone to see the awe in a child’s eyes as they look upon everything that makes this season magical.

Santa, I know (most of) these gifts are almost impossible to make happen, but that is okay. Because I already have the greatest gifts ever: The ability to dream of these things, and the unending hope that every single one of these WILL come true.

I may be 24-years-old, but deep down I still believe in you. I still believe in flying reindeer, cookies and milk, elves, and everything that is magic during this season.

It’s not about presents, though. It’s not about the amount of money spent. It’s about so much more: hope, peace, love and joy.

Happy Holidays, Santa.
Denise
