Play It Loud
Chris Cagle
Play it loud, indeed. Country newcomer Chris Cagle's debut album, "Play It Loud," proves that not all hope is lost in country music today. There are still artists that can belt out a powerful ballad and then follow it with a rocking number that will make even the most reserved person itch to jump out of their chair and party.
Cagle's first single kicks off the album. "My Love Goes On" is a fast paced, addictive song that makes it known right away that this album is one that demands attention. The album closes with "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out," a heart-wrenching ballad about getting through each day after a break-up.
The ten tracks in between bridge the gap perfectly to create what can easily be called the best country album to be released in several years.
With Cagle having grown up in south Texas, it comes as no surprise to find songs like "Country By The Grace of God" and "Rock The Boat." Both tracks capture the pride and love of a good time that most Texans carry. They make the listener want to call all their friends and throw the biggest party imaginable.
Cagle brings it all back down, though, in tracks like "Ton of Love" and "Lovin' You Lovin' Me." They show a softer side and an unmistakable talent that can get lost in fast songs. Cagle is not just a performer; he's an artist. His voice is smooth and he sings with a gut wrenching passion.
Ten of the twelve tracks on the album Cagle wrote or co-wrote. The lyrics are straight forward and powerful. There are only a few minor moments that boarder on cheesy. ("My love goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on")
On a whole though, many established artists would be well informed to give "Play It Loud" and listen and take notice. Chris Cagle may be new, but he's already got the competition beat with his debut album.
